Prof. Thorsten Haas, MD is an Anesthesiologist who specializes in pediatric anesthesia. He earned his medical degree from Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany. He then joined the Innsbruck Medical University, Innsbruck, Austria, where he became a consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. In 2011, he moved to the Department of Pediatric Anesthesia at the University Children’s Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland where he remained until 2021, before moving on to the München Klinik Schwabing in Munich, Germany, where he practices as a Leading Consultant in Anaesthesiology.
His research interests include point-of-care (viscoelastic) coagulation testing and perioperative coagulation management, with a special focus on the use of coagulation factors during major pediatric surgeries. He implemented a Pediatric Patient Blood Management Program at the University Children’s Hospital in Zurich.
He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and is a reviewer for 18 major anesthesia and hematology journals. He is currently a member of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) Subgroup for Perioperative Coagulation Management and a Member of the Scientific Committee for the Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA).
